Saudi Arabia Railway (SAR) announced today that the first train
has arrived last week to Al Jubail, and that it already transported the train
to the company’s facilities for testing and preparations.
According to a press release issued by SAR, the new train
will start testing next June, while the work on finalizing the railway and
facilities will continue. The new line will connect Al Riyadh to Al Qurayyat.
SAR has also said that the Spanish company – the
manufacturer of the train – will make 6 trains according to the contract.
The day train is going to seat 444 passengers with a total
length of 280 m, and will consist of 2 locomotives and 9 carts. the economy
class will have 4 carts while 3 carts for the business class, a cart for snacks
and a cart for luggage.
The night train is going to seat 377 passengers with a total
length of 383 m, and will consist of 2 locomotives and 13 carts. the economy
class will have 3 carts while 1cart for the business class, 3 sleeping carts,
and 4 car transporters, a cart for snacks and a cart for luggage.
That both trains are technically the same,
and are capable of reaching a top speed of 200 km/h.
